The Middle Ages took place between the ancient times and the modern period. It occured during 500AD-1500AD. The population in Europe during this time was smaller, but it started to increase, because the number of people went to about double of what it was. There were a few factors that caused this major increase in population. One reason was, because it was a more peaceful place after the invasion had come to a halt. Another major reason was the dramatic increase in
food production and other supplies. Increasing food and other supplies drew in so many people, because they knew they would have all the items they would need to live a healthy life. Also, the increase in technology served as a major help in population growth simply, because it lowered the amount of labor it would take to get a certain product. Some of these new devices such as axes, hoes, saws, hammers, nails and wheel plows served as a major help on farms. These items made work much easier and less time consuming which brought up the production of crops. The daily life of people in the middle ages was much harder than times today. In order to get something they wanted many people followed the barter system. This system was solely based off of trade, if you wanted something you needed to propose a fair trade for that product with someone who owns it. One product that was high in demand was wool. Someone who wanted to become a craftsman would have to know how to get the products they would need. A person who wanted to learn to trade first was called an apprentice. An apprentice was usually someone young who wanted to enter this profession early. After being an apprentice, this person would become a journeyman and work for wages with other masters. These journeymen would then have to create a final masterpiece and show their craft. If their craft was approved they would then become a member of the guild. In the late Middle Ages, times became tough for people due to some natural disasters. One disaster that stood out among the rest was known as the black death. If one of your family members had this disease they would be left by there family because nobody wanted to catch this horrible disease. It would give you big sores that grew usually on your neck and groin and they would get bigger and bigger and become extremely painful. This plague was commonly given to people by rats and infested fleas carrying this disease. It spread everywhere wiping out towns and large numbers of the populations. This disease cost many social and especially economical set backs. Overall, this disease spread very widely and was one of the most traumatic times of the Middle Ages.
